05 / Terminal objective / Recovery

BRING THEM BACK

The crew goes below for one of their own. The network has been waiting long enough to know exactly what that means.

Onboard study / The Passenger is identified after boarding, never before.

The crew is not descending to map the underworld or solve its theology. They are going back for the person they left there.

The missing voice comes through abandoned speakers and dead intercom circuits. It knows private details. It sounds afraid. The closer the train gets, the more obedient the surrounding nightmares become.

Primary directiveFind them. Open the doors. Do not ask why the line let you leave.

Recovery state

Missing Is Not Dead

When the doors close with someone still in the dark, the train leaves. That player becomes Missing rather than simply dead. A short survival sequence keeps abandonment terrifying without turning the rest of the session into a long spectator wait.

The crew can create a later recovery opportunity by spending Fare, finding a route, or accepting a worse stop. Rescue is a system because the emotional threat at the center of the game should also exist at the scale of one ordinary run.

Three scavengers fight to reach their battered subway while the grasshopper-jointed Conductor occupies the platform in hard light.
Contact study / The Conductor does not pursue. It checks whether you belong here.
Four crew members force subway doors shut against a pale radial organism gripping the windows and door seam from outside.
Door event / Four people hold the line while one organism learns every edge.
Three wrong-jointed human organisms gallop across track, wall, and train side as the crew reacts through warm carriage windows.
Transit attack / The train is a home only while it keeps moving.

World premise

The Oldest Line Beneath Every Story

The underground is not a collection of themed mythological realms. It is one physically real network so old that different cultures encountered fragments of it and built their underworld stories around what they survived.

Modern subway construction did not create the line. It broke into it. New rails, switches, signs, and stations have been layered over infrastructure that was already carrying something between the living world and whatever waits below it.

Narrative boundary

The Return Refuses an Answer

At the final platform, the missing crew member is found alive and apparently unchanged. The things on the line withdraw. The route opens. The train is allowed to depart.

The game never confirms whether the person is wrong, replaced, marked, protected, or exactly who they appear to be. The crew accomplishes the rescue. The unanswered question is not whether they brought someone home. It is why the network decided that they could.

Line condition

They came back. That is the only part anyone can prove.
